Psychometric Properties of the Persian Version of the of the Emotional Reaction Scale (ERS) in Students

Introduction: Emotional reactivity has a role in the creation and continuation of many psychological disorders, but the measurement tools of this component are limited. The purpose of this study was to assess the psychometric adequacy of the Persian version of the Emotional Reaction Scale (ERS). Method: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 300 students of Kashan University who were selected by cluster sampling. Instruments used were Emotional Reactivity Questionnaires (ERS), Health Anxiety Inventory (F-SHAI), Anxiety Sensitivity (ASI), and Carver & White Behavioral Inhibition/Inhibition Systems (BAS/BIS). The questionnaire was constructed using Approach and exploratory factor analysis method was investigated. Also, convergent validity was assessed by Health Anxiety Inventory (F-SHAI, ASI Anxiety Sensitivity Questionnaire) and Carver & White Behavioral Inhibition /Inhibition System (BAS/BIS), and the reliability of the test and internal consistency of the questionnaire. Results: The results of the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the three factor model of the questionnaire was not approved. The results of exploratory factor analysis confirmed the four factors: emotional response speed, emotional intensity, emotional persistence and emotional sensitivity. Also, the convergence credibility of this questionnaire was good with anxiety inventory (0.33), anxiety sensitivity (0.41). The correlation of Behavioral Inhibition / Behavioral Inventory Questionnaire (BAS / BIS) was not significant, which indicates a divergent scale validity .The internal consistency and reliability of the test were 0.92 and 0.72 respectively. Conclusion: The Emotional Reactivity Scale (ERS) is suitable for measuring the severity, speed, sensitivity and emotional persistence of Iranian adults, and is a suitable instrument with good psychometric qualities.
